UPDATE // Where have I been?

Hello there!

Well, it happens to the best of us. I got super busy towards the end of 2017. Here we are, almost April and I have yet to post anything. At the end of 2017 I had the honor to document several important events: Weddings, families, communities, and political movements. I’ve been behind my camera A LOT and in front of my computer very little. So I thought I’d share the latest news!

I’ve been working on a personal project very close to my heart. It’s a documentary called 30 at Thirty. On November 14th I turned 30.  Like most of us I was dreading the birthday but then it happened and I felt amazing! I feel like I’m the greatest version of me. I had also been brain storming ideas for a personal photo project to work on and at that moment it all came to be. So, I’ve given myself 1 year to interview and photograph 30 women at the age of 30. I’ve decided to keep it just inside the US, but I want to make sure I interview women from all over our country. To date I’ve been to: CA,DC,DE,FL,HI,IL,MO,OR and I’m trying to plan a road trip to TEXAS maybe in the Summer.

You can follow my journey on IG: @30atthirty or on FB: https://www.facebook.com/30atthirty/

Each subject gets to choose where she is photographed. The interview consists of the same 15 questions (I’ll get into that later). But I will share this- I’m learning thru this process that as a whole this generation is working hard to be our best selves, (no) not all of us are drowning in  student debt, almost all of us want a family, and we all suffer from anxiety.

Here’s 18 portraits from the series so far:

Are you 30? Do you identify as female? If you answered YES to both of those questions and live in the US please contact me: erika@erikanizborski.com , I’d LOVE to interview you.

Stay tuned for more!

Fall Wedding // Inn at Mount Vernon Farm

This past fall I had the absolute pleasure to go back to the Inn at Mount Vernon Farm in Sperryville, VA to photograph another wedding there. It was Maggie and Will’s BIG DAY and they were surrounded by some really amazing family and friends… and their furry four legged family too! Around every corner I found sentimental details, which led to lots and lots of photos.   These two are also diehard Chicago Cubs fans, though they had hadn’t won the world series quite yet at this point they did have a very special surprise at the end of the ceremony. Here are some highlights from the day…

Thank you to the amazing Jessica Yurinko for helping me to document the day!  Also- Thank you to these vendors:

In Honor of Valentines Day // Ruby Red Fall Wedding

Back in early October I had the absolute honor to photograph my Ice Skating Coach’s Wedding! Let me tell you the pressure was on for this one! We nailed it and took home the gold with Jenny and Nate’s flawless day.  They had a warm and sunny day at Glen Ellen Farm surrounded by family and friends they tied the knot and danced the night away with a bonfire and pig roast!

The wedding party and details were decked out in ruby red, which is fitting for today.  Happy Valentines Day! <3

Fall Wedding in DC // Longview Gallery

It’s 2017 and over here we have delivered all the beautiful fall weddings, we have decompressed from the holidays, and are now ready to move full speed ahead into the new year! I can not wait to share every detail that was captured over the past several months.  Let’s pick up right where we left off…

H&M got married in early October.  The day began over at the Marriott Marquis with Bridal Prep , first look, and a few wedding party portraits.  There was some on and off rain that day so we called the Uber and off we went to my back up  portrait location at the National Portrait Gallery! The Ceremony and Reception were held at Longview Gallery.  We had a break in the rain so we were able to take a few portraits in Blagden Alley. 🙂 yay!

The whole party moved next door for the after party at Lost and Found. A little rain didn’t put a damper on this wedding!

Here are some of my favorites from the day…

None of these moments would have been possible without the amazing Victoria Ruan shooting with me!

The BEST Fried Chicken in DC on 4 Wheels!

Hey there, as the busy wedding season comes to an end for 2016 I thought I would go a different route with this post and share something a bit different with you all. This is very timely given the events that have happened in our country this week.

Recently I had the amazing opportunity to photograph a DC based culinary artist named Mike.  Mike owns a string of food trucks; DC Ballers (Falafel) , Rollin’ Pizza, and Roaming Rooster.  Mike is a Ethiopian- Canadian that came to the US in the mid 90’s to live closer to his family and pursue his dream of starting a food truck empire! Cooking is Mike’s passion, he uses fresh ingredients, and perfected recipes. Oh, and his chicken is free-range and hormone free!

Today, he has one of DC’s most successful food trucks, and unarguably THE BEST fried chicken I’ve ever had!

Here is a look at his business and the incredible people he has on his team…

The next time you find yourself in downtown DC around lunchtime look out for one of Mike’s trucks!

Summer is over!

As we embark on the last true weekend of Summer I thought it would be appropriate to share some highlights from the coolest staff picnic I’ve ever seen! Summer is over! Let’s relive that July heat wave, here are some moments from the staff Picnic at George Washington’s Mount Vernon.  Sweets and treats provided by Rebel’s Kitchen , countless delicious food trucks, and a bouncy house obstacle course.  What fun!

Many of us will head out to a BBQ or Picnic this weekend, what’s your favorite way to end Summer?

NOVA Wedding // A Beautiful Blended Family

The Summer has flown by and now the days are getting shorter, I’m not sure where the time has gone.  I’ve been dying to share this June Wedding!   I was trying to think of a good name for this wedding.  The Ceremony was in Alexandria, Portraits in Old Town, and the Reception in Woodbridge at Old Hickory   So, NOVA Wedding made the most sense! This couple entered their marriage each with a young son.  Just a year apart in age these boys, already friends are now instant brothers! The day was as much about their mom and dad as it was about them.  It was really beautiful to see the boys included in the wedding day in such a special way. The older of the two boys walked his Mom down the isle and gave a toast at the reception. The younger was his Dad’s Best Man! This is a perfect example of a modern blended family! Here is a recap of the day…

Wedding Day Recap // S&J

I hope everyone had a fabulous 4th of July! I’m back at it here in the office and today I am excited to share this lovely wedding day recap from S&J’s wedding. My amazing wing-woman Victoria Ruan and I had a blast capturing this wedding.  It was held at 2941 Restaurant in Falls Church, VA.  The day started out sunny and bright with a light breeze.  We were able to get thru portraits until we had to move the party indoors.  But, you know what? It was great because S&J had a great rain plan.  Their day was flawless and we even got to admire an early summer rain from the floor to ceiling windows overlooking the waterfalls.

Shannon and Jonathan’s Wedding

DC area natives, S&J recently moved back into the area from Australia! Not only were they surrounded by family and childhood friends but I was really impressed that many of their Australian friends made the journey to celebrate with them!

What’s the furthest you’ve traveled to attend a wedding?
